Immersive opening show

Case: To celebrate the opening of the new University of Amsterdam faculty building: Lab 42, home of artificial intelligence & digital innovation. Meanwhile showcasing the three main groups residing in the building, and the synergy that occurs when they come together. The three groups being researchers, educators & students.

Solution: A unique hybrid digital and live performance show that develops all around the audience utilising every corner of Lab42’s massive atrium. We composed a piece of music with the idea in mind that each discipline residing in Lab 42 is represented by one of 3 main components of music: Harmony, Melody & Rhythm. When these come together something magical happens. The show featured the ghost of Alan Turing, founder of AI, brought to live through stunning visuals on five massive LED-screens. Alan would tell the story of each group individually. We made him fly through five floors using 3D sound, where three musicians stood with imposing LED walls towering behind them. A pianist played the harmony on a piano high up on the third floor to symbolise Education. A haunting melody on Violin then appeared behind the crowd to signify Research. Then, an epic drum solo thrilled the crowd to represent the vigour of Entrepreneurship. Finally, the sounds of harmony, melody, and rhythm blend together with a spectacular symphony of coloured lights and 3D visuals. This climax symbolises the synergy that occurs when researchers, educators, and students come together at Lab 42 to build a better future.
